LARS BEHRENROTH – ANDY COMPTON – RALF GUM
VINNY DA VINCI – DJ CHRISTOS – STRAT3GY – TIM WHITE
“House is a feeling” goes the famous phrase, and nobody knows this better than the House Afrika crew, who’ve been trawling the genre’s deepest waters and piloting its bravest ventures for over two decades.
House Afrika are now spreading the love at a not-to-be-missed event featuring three revered international names, Lars Behrenroth (Deeper Shades Of House), Andy Compton (Peng) and Ralf GUM (GOGO Music), at The Bank on Thursday 5 May. This overseas duo will be ably backed-up by SA’s best, including House Afrika’s Tim White, DJ Stat3gy and Vinny Da Vinci, plus special guest (and Vinny’s DJs At Work partner), DJ Christos.
The trio of overseas guests have a deep affinity with South Africa. Lars Behrenroth has remixed a number of local acts and regularly drops deep South Afro-house in his highly-regarded online radio sets and at club gigs, and this affinity will no doubt be exemplified by the excellence on the decks he’s displayed on previous visits.
Andy Compton’s kinship with the SA house community was sealed in 2010 when he packed venues across the country on his debut trip (following a decade during which his Peng label and Rurals moniker infiltrated local floors and compilation CDs). His recent ‘Kholofelo Remixed’ release on House Afrika featured no less than eight contributions from SA producers, including blazing prospects like Magic Soul, Da Capo and DJ Bullet, and his return will no doubt be rapturously received.
Ralf GUM’s GOGO Music label is globally regarded and has issued tracks by locals like Black Coffee, Shana and DJ Christos, and he recently worked floors across the country (including at the massive Vodacom Unlimited Festival) with his deeply delicious beats.
If this gig wasn’t hot enough already, the international contingent will be supported by the House Afrika crew and the legendary DJ Christos, who’ll play their part in an eight-hour rhythm marathon that starts at 8pm and ends at 4am, all for just R100 at the door (ladies get in free before 10:30).
